Ryan K. Shields, PharmD, MS, associate professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh and Contagion®'s Multidrug-Resistant Infections Section Editor, previews the upcoming June issue.

"In the June issue of Contagion® we have an exciting article coming up by Drs. M. Hong Nguyen and Neil Clancy where they're going to talk and discuss the appropriate implementation of rapid, direct-from-whole-blood assays at your institution. One of the most important things these authors describe is how to incorporate these tests into your patient population by not only understanding the performance of the test, but also understanding the patient populations that are most likely to benefit from them.

These are leaders in the field who have helped us understand how to rationally use diagnostic tests in our patients. This will be an exciting issue and helps all of us better understand, for our patient populations, to look at for the various tests and understand how to put these 2 things together to better manage patients."
