Using Apps to Improve the Management of Staphylococcus aureus

Video

Debra Goff, PharmD, FCCP, discusses how the STAB-IT app helps health care providers with real-time point-of-care management of Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia.

Debra Goff, PharmD, FCCP, infectious disease clinical pharmacist at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, explains how apps can be used to improve the management of harmful bacteria. Dr. Goff and colleagues at her institution developed an app called STAB-IT (Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia is terrible) which allows health care providers to access data regarding diagnosis, management, and treatment of Staph aureus bacteremia in real-time at point-of-care. She stresses that this offers an alternative to delivering lectures, that perhaps fits better in the hectic realm of infectious disease. She adds that another benefit of the app is that it can be updated to reflect any needed changes.
