The Race to Develop a Safe & Effective C. difficile Vaccine

Richard Haupt, MD, MPH, vice president of Medical Development at Pfizer Vaccines, discusses the different pharmaceutical companies’ efforts to develop a C. difficile vaccine.

“Are there other companies that are developing C. difficile vaccine? Yes, there are. Another major pharmaceutical vaccine maker Sanofi Pasteur is also in a phase 3 trial to assess the safety and efficacy of vaccines. And so, we, and Sanofi, are both trying to do the same thing, taking the same approach. The vaccine might be a little bit different but they’re both vaccines that are targeted against the toxins that mediate the disease.”
