Recalls That Should Be on Your Radar—Week of November 24, 2019

We’ve compiled a list of recalls issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and US Department of Agriculture (USDA) from this past week:

Northern Fisheries LTD. Expands Yellowfin Tuna Recall Due to Possible Elevated Histamine

Northern Fisheries LTD has expanded the voluntary recall they issued for frozen, wild-caught yellowfin Tuna Medallions (product of Vietnam) to include product sold directly to consumers. The recall is related to potentially elevated levels of histamine, which can produce a reaction called scombroid fish poisoning.

Affected products were sold in Connecticut, Michigan, Minnesota, Rhode Island, and Wisconsin.

B. Braun Medical Inc. Issues Recall of 22 Lots of Blood Administration Sets Due to Potential For Leakages at the Joint Between Blood Filters and Tubing

B. Braun Medical Inc. has initiated a voluntary recall of 22 lots of Blood Administration Sets used to administer blood from a container to a patient’s vascular system through an IV catheter.

The problem was identified by B. Braun Medical Inc. through complaints and internal discrepancies which pointed to the potential for leakage at the joint between the blood filters and tubing of the blood administration sets.

Blood set leakage can result in the potential for microorganisms to enter the circulatory system, creating risk for bloodstream infection. To date, there have been no reports of serious injury or death associated with the recalled products.

Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc. Issues Recall of Chicken Fried Rice Products Due to Potential Foreign Matter Contamination

Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc. has issued a recall of approximately 172,692 pounds of chicken fried rice products which may have been contaminated with pieces of plastic.

The affected frozen chicken fried rice items were produced from July 9, 2019 to July 11, 2019. Products subject to recall bear the establishment number P-34708 inside the United States Department of Agriculture mark of inspection.

The problem was discovered after the firm received complaints from consumers. There have been no confirmed reports of injury or illness related to the recalled products.
