We’ve compiled a list of recalls issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and US Department of Agriculture (USDA) from this past week:

Mountain Rose Herbs Issues Recall of Organic Kudzu Root Herbal Supplement Due to Salmonella Contamination

Mountain Rose Herbs has issued a recall for all sizes of its Organic Kudzu Root Herbal Supplement from Lots #24247-X and #24247. The affected products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The problem was discovered by the company’s internal testing. There have been no adverse events reported to date.

Salmonella can cause serious infections in young children, older adults, and those with immunocompromising conditions. Healthy individuals may experience nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, among other symptoms.

AFC Distribution Issues Recall of Cooked Butterfly Tail-On Whiteleg Shrimp Due to Vibrio parahaemolyticus Contamination

AFC Distribution Corp. announced a recall of Lot #2019.10.02 of its Sushi Ebi product due to the potential to be contaminated with Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Vibrio parahaemolyticus can cause nausea, vomiting, fever, diarrhea, and chills.

There have been no confirmed illnesses reported.

Natural Remedy Store Issues Recall of Active Male 500 mg Capsules Due to Undeclared Substance

Natural Remedy Store has issued a recall of its Active Male 500 mg dietary supplements due to the presence of undeclared tadalafil. Tadalafil is an FDA approved medication for treating male erectile dysfunction, making Active Male an unregulated and unapproved drug.

Undeclared tadalafil can cause drug interactions with prescription medications containing nitrates.

Chicago Indoor Garden Issues Recall of Red Clover Sprouts Due to Escherichia coli Contamination

Chicago Indoor Garden has issued a recall of Red Clover sprouts that have the potential to be contaminated with E coli 0103. The products were distributed to Whole Foods locations throughout the Midwest.

E coli sickness can cause stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting.

WinCo Foods Recalls Blackberries and Frozen Berry Medley Due to Norovirus Contamination

WinCo Foods has issued a recall of blackberries and a Frozen Berry Medley due to the possibility for both products to be contaminated with norovirus.

Most norovirus infections lead to discomfort such as vomiting, diarrhea with abdominal cramps, and nausea. More severe infections can occur in children, older adults, and people who are immunocompromised.

The problem was discovered when a sample of the product was tested by the FDA. No illnesses have been reported to date.
