Recalls That Should Be on Your Radar Week of January 19, 2020

We’ve compiled a list of recalls issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and US Department of Agriculture (USDA) from this past week:

Five Star Food Issues Recall of Sham Gardens Excellent Tahina Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination

Five Star Foods has issued a recall of 100 cases of “excellent Tahina” (800 g) and 100 cases of “excellent Tahina” (400 g) due to the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella often experience fever, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. For people who are immunocompromised, young children, and older adults, the infection can become more serious.

The problem was discovered due to random sampling by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

No adverse events have been reported in connection with the recall.

ABH Nature’s Products, ABH Pharma, and Stocknutra.com Issue Recalls of All Dietary Supplement Products Due to Manufacturing Quality Issues

ABH Nature’s Products, ABH Pharma, and Stocknutra.com have issued a nationwide recall of all lots of dietary supplement products pursuant to a consent decree entered by the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The recall has been initiated after an FDA inspection found substantial violations of good manufacturing practice regulations.

The recall applies to all dietary supplement products manufactured and sold between January 2013 and November 2019. To date, no adverse events have been reported in association with the products.

FDA Issues Public Health Alert Concerning Salud Natural Entrepreneur, Inc. Nopalina Flax Seed Powder and Nopalina Flax Seed Capsules Due to Potential Salmonella Contamination

The FDA is advising consumers not to use Nopalina Flax Seed Fiber powder and capsules from Salud Natural Entrepreneur, Inc. due to the possibility of Salmonella contamination. The problem was discovered when the FDA collected a product sample of senna leaves powder, an ingredient used in manufacturing of the products, which tested positive for 3 types of Salmonella.

To date, FDA is not aware of any adverse events associated with the recalled products.

“The FDA intends to use all available tools to remove contaminated product from the market,” officials wrote.

Lipari Foods Expands Recalls of Premo and Fresh Grab Sandwiches Due to Potential Listeria monocytogenes Contamination

Lipari Foods has expanded its January 6 and January 13 recalls of Premo and Fresh Grab sandwiches to include all sandwiches with a best buy date of February 2, 2020 and prior, due to the possibility of Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious infection in young children, older adults, and those who are immunocompromised. Healthy individuals may only suffer short term symptoms such as severe headache, high fever, stiffness, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

Savannah Food Company Issues Recall of Cornbread Dressing and Bread Stuffing Due to Possible Listeria monocytogenes Contamination

Savannah Food Company has issued a voluntary recall of formulations of Cornbread Dressing and Bread Stuffing which included frozen diced eggs supplied by Almark Foods. Egg products from Almark Foods produced in Gainesville, Georgia, have been found to have the potential for Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

There have not been reports of confirmed illness associated with the recalled items.
