Silvia Munoz-Price, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Institute for Health and Society, Medical College of Wisconsin, and Enterprise Epidemiologist for Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin, calls for a clear delineation of the role of hospital epidemiologists.
Interview Transcript (slightly modified for readability):
"I think we are all a team in a hospital and in my own hospital I work very well within the quality department and within the nursing component of infection control department. But because we don’t have in-hospital epi, we don’t have a clear delineation of our role, and what is it that we do that other members of the team do[n't] do? I feel that that grey area at some point expands and makes our turf contract. So, that’s why I think a clear delineation of our role will be helpful so that we can continue working in more functional teams in the future."
