Contagion® Outbreak Monitor Reports on Hepatitis A Outbreaks
The top five affected states are Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Florida, and Indiana.

Since 2016, 23 states have reported outbreaks of hepatitis A among people who use drugs and/or experience homelessness. Before these outbreaks began, the United States reported an estimated 4,000 cases of hepatitis A annually. The recent outbreaks have now resulted in more than 17,000 cases and 8,500 hospitalizations in just those 22 states.
The Outbreak Monitor reports the following statistics for the top five states for cases and deaths, respectively: Kentucky, 4,621 cases and 57 deaths; West Virginia, 2,513 and 21; Ohio, 2,298 and 8; Florida, 1,768; and Indiana, 1,405 and 4.
