A brief summary of the latest infectious disease news.
Hello and thank you for joining Contagion. I’m here with a brief on our latest infectious disease clinical coverage:
Contagion’s June print edition is on its way. In his June letter, titled “COVID-19 Preprints: Reader, Beware”, our editor-in-chief Dr. Jason Gallagher explores the influence of preprints amid the ongoing rush to publish information during the coronavirus pandemic.
We also shared an interview with Dr. Vickie Mays, who uses her training in clinical psychology to provide insight on the long-term cognitive impact of the coronavirus pandemic and outbreak response. Dr. Mays has past experience with the HIV/AIDS epidemic as well as disaster recovery in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
In pipeline news, the US has funded the Oxford COVID-19 vaccine to the tune of 1 billion dollars. The vaccine will be developed by AstraZeneca.
And lastly, Contagion editorial director Allie Ward sat down with our regular contributor, Dr. Saskia Popescu, an infection prevention epidemiologist, to talk all things COVID, with a particular emphasis on what she calls the “info-demic” — a battle for information that rages online during the world’s first social mediatized pandemic.
