A daily summary of our COVID-19 coverage.
Hello and thank you for joining Contagion. I’m assistant editor Grant Gallagher, here with an update on our COVID-19 coverage for May 5, 2020.
This morning, we covered preclinical evaluations of 20 drugs for repurposing against COVID-19. In the recent study, 7 went on to be tested and several showed benefit against SARS-CoV-2 in animal models. It should be noted, of course, that dynamics in other organisms are not necessarily accurate to the human body.
In other news, the FDA has now granted Emergency Use Authorization to a wearable tech path which acts as a heart Biosensor for COVID-19 Patients. The device will allow for real time monitoring by doctors treating COVID-19. We know COVID-19 has cardiac risks both through medications being used experimentally and in terms of the virus itself.
We also conducted several video interviews in the past few days, ranging from a discussion with Dr. Neil Clancy about remdesivir data to a discussion on universal face shields with Dr. Michael B Edmond.

For Contagion, I’m Grant Gallagher, thanks for watching.
